Event Description

The first international symposium on Single-Case Experimental Designs (SCEDs), Small is Beautiful, was held in Stockholm in October 2018. The central theme of the symposium was “Single-case experimentation enhancing the scientist–practitioner challenge.” The goals of the symposium were to raise awareness and interest in single-case research methods, help bridge the scientist–practitioner gap, and provide a state-of-the-art overview of single-case experimental designs for clinicians and applied researchers. A further aim was to foster the development of an international network of researchers and practitioners using N-of-1 and single-case designs. This inaugural symposium laid the foundation for subsequent Small is Beautiful meetings in 2021 and 2023 and contributed to the growing international momentum around within-person and personalised research methods.
