Description: This webinar focused on the use of N-of-1 trials and other single-case designs in complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) research. Associate Professor Jane Nikles discussed why single-case methodologies are particularly well suited to patient-centred, whole-person approaches commonly used in CAM, while also addressing key methodological challenges such as slow onset and offset of treatment effects and uncertainty around washout periods. The webinar presented several single-case design options that can be adapted to these constraints to support rigorous and clinically meaningful research.

Description: This webinar was part of the 2022 Statistics Lecture Series hosted by the Office of Biostatistics within the Clinical Trials Unit of the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), National Institutes of Health (NIH). The lecture focused on the statistical foundations and practical considerations of personalised N-of-1 trials. Designed for investigators and trainees, the session aimed to build familiarity with key statistical concepts underpinning N-of-1 trial design and analysis, recognising that while many clinical researchers do not conduct analyses themselves, an understanding of these principles is essential for rigorous trial planning and interpretation.
